Mosin Nagant M44 Sporter Page 7
The next thing to do was decide what kind of scope mounts were to be used. While looking into the scope mounts, I also researched what type of safety I could come up with, rather than the bolt knob safety, which the mosin already had. I decided to buy a trigger guard assembly from an SKS to graft into the original mosin trigger guard. Since I wanted to retain the original sights for this particular M44, I decided to use a see-through scope mount.
The first thing that needed to be done was to alter The SKS scope mount. After taking a few measurements, I started to cut away the metal of the scope mount, that wouldn't be needed. Below are a couple of pictures of the SKS mount, after it was cut up.
Below are a couple of pictures of the SKS mount after final cuts were made.
After the final cuts were made, it was clamped to the receiver and positioned.I also had the bolt intalled to make sure there wasn't any intference with it's operation. I then wrapped the bolt and receiver with numerous wet rags and tacked welded the mount to the reciever. I again tried the bolts operation after things cooled down to check it's operation. After thing seemed right, I welded the scope mount to the receiver. Some final filing was all that was needed after the welds were done.As you can see by the pictures, no alterations were required to fit the barreled receiver into the stock.
