The pictures above shows the bayonet lug removed. This was done by using an air powered "whiz wheel" or cutoff tool to remove the lug. We left the retaining pin in the lug mount. A bench grinder was carefully used to remove what remained of the lug mount. The finish grinding was done with a scotchbrite disk in a die grinder. The area was finished off with 120 grit sand paper. Depending on how the light hits the end of the barrel, you can see a slight line where the barrel and lug mount meet. Not a big deal, didn't want the dent visible left if we normally removed the lug mount and pin. I placed the barreled receiver in the ATI stock before and after the lug was remove. We then took to a friend's property to shoot and there was no effect to the point of aim.

As far as the 91/30 stock goes, the first thing was to cut of where it was broken and split. I didn't bother sanding where the cut was made. Inserted a piece of 1/4" aluminum rod into the cleaning rod hole and fiber glassed it in, the remaining length. We didn't like the way others have similarly sporterized stocks and just hacked off part of wood. The aluminum rod was made in two pieces, with an inch gap, to allow for a sling mount screw. The rest was fiber glassed and blended into the remainder of the stock, concealing the aluminum rod.

Next was the decision for the butt stock pad.  We didn't want the ordinary, run-of-the-mill pad. I also didn't like how others have just cut down the butt stock to fit on a pad. While looking through eBay online, I lucked out and "snipered" this pad with a few seconds remaining. Which is the only way I bid on eBay, so beware. It cost less than ten dollars after shipping. My son thought it looked "cool" and so did I. It's from a Ruger Mini-14.
